OVERHAUL AND DETAILING
Complete Overhaul & Detailing of Manual and Automatic Watches
Precision Work. Swiss Standards. Trusted Results.
At Swiss Watch Precision, the overhaul and detailing of a mechanical timepiece is an art form guided by science and decades of horological expertise. Our process is designed not just to repair, but to restore your watch to factory-level performance and aesthetic condition—inside and out.
Step 1: Full Disassembly & Diagnosis
Every overhaul begins with carefully opening the case back. Our master watchmakers inspect the movement in detail, identifying signs of wear, rust, or damage. Any compromised components are documented and sourced from trusted Swiss suppliers.
The watch is then fully dismantled, with the movement, case, crystal, stem, and bracelet separated. While the bracelet and case head are sent to our senior polisher for professional refinishing, our watchmakers begin the delicate process of disassembling the movement piece by piece. Each gear, jewel, and spring is carefully examined under magnification for function and integrity.
Step 2: Ultrasonic Cleaning & Parts Replacement
Using a specialized six-phase ultrasonic cleaning system, all movement components are bathed in premium-grade solutions to eliminate debris, dust, and dried lubricants. Simultaneously, our sourcing team locates and verifies any required replacement parts to ensure they meet the exact specifications of the original manufacturer.
Step 3: Movement Reassembly & Lubrication
Once cleaned, our watchmakers begin reassembling the movement, applying Swiss-grade lubricants at precise friction points. New gaskets and seals are installed to ensure optimal water resistance. This part of the process demands absolute focus—reassembling a mechanical movement typically takes 1 to 2 uninterrupted hours, depending on the complexity of the caliber.
Step 4: Final Assembly & Quality Control
After the movement is cased and the timepiece reassembled, it enters the final stage of our service protocol: rigorous quality control. We perform:
-
Amplitude testing – to measure the consistency and strength of the movement’s oscillations.
-
Water resistance testing – using professional-grade pressure chambers that simulate depth and detect microscopic leaks.
-
Winding simulation – the watch is placed on a precision winding wheel to mimic real wrist movement, allowing us to verify power reserve and automatic performance across multiple days.
Turnaround Time: 3 to 6 Weeks
Our complete service process typically requires 3 to 6 weeks, depending on part availability, complexity of the timepiece, and workload in our atelier. Every serviced watch is returned to its owner fully detailed, timed to perfection, and backed by our comprehensive service warranty.
